Session Leaders play a vital role in delivering academic sessions at outreach events. These are designed to inspire participants about subject areas and give them the chance to learn about new topics they may not have studied at school.

What do Session Leaders do?

Deliver interactive academic sessions and create academic resources which are tailored to the age of the participants.

Standard Sessions

All Session Leaders develop a standard session which is related to their specific area of study but which can be adapted for different age groups. These are usually delivered during events that take place in Cambridge, although they can occasionally take place in schools around the country.

Bespoke Sessions

In some cases, we may look for a Session Leader to develop a new session specifically tailored to an event. For example, it may be that a session on a particular topic or in a different format (e.g. supervision style) is required. On some occasions, Event Coordinators look for Session Leaders who can also create resources to sit alongside their session.

Who are the sessions for?

We run sessions for students aged 11-18 who take part in a range of widening participation projects, so there is a lot of opportunity to gain experience of working with different age groups. In addition to delivering sessions for CAO, Session Leaders can support outreach events in the Cambridge Colleges.

What will I get out of it?

  • An enjoyable and rewarding experience, working directly with young people
  • A chance to engage with and inspire young people about your area of research
  • Training sessions designed to equip you with the skills to deliver high quality sessions to young people
  • Feedback to enable you to improve your sessions and for use on job applications!

Payment rates

Rates of pay vary between £40 and £55 per hour.

How to Apply

Apply for the Session Leader role through the Qualtrics form. You can apply anytime and we will generally accept new Session Leaders at the start of each Academic Year but may recruit sooner if we receive a large amount of applications.
