The University of Cambridge is seeking a talented and motivated individual to join our central Widening Participation (WP) team as Deputy Head of Widening Participation (Research and Training). This senior role sits at the heart of our efforts to improve access and participation for students from underrepresented backgrounds.

Reporting to the Head of Widening Participation and Collaborative Outreach, you will:

  • Undertake research and intelligence gathering to shape institutional priorities and strengthen best practice.
  • Coordinate training and professional development for outreach practitioners across the collegiate University.
  • Contribute to the delivery of our Access and Participation Plan (APP) commitments with the Office for Students.
  • Manage and support an enthusiastic and collaborative team delivering evidence-based, high-impact outreach.

    NEACO Data Analyst (Part Time, Fixed Term)

    Applications are invited for the post of Network for East Anglian Collaborative Outreach (neaco) Data Analyst.

    The post holder will have responsibility for monitoring progress and measuring the impact of activities delivered by the neaco project.

    This post is part of the Uni Connect Programme (https://www.officeforstudents.org.uk/), funded by the government and overseen by The Office for Students (OfS). The programme was set up in 2017 and supports a strategic goal that students' access to higher education is not limited by their background, location or characteristics.

    Uni Connect brings together 29 partnerships of universities, colleges and other local partners to offer activities, advice and information on the benefits and realities of going to university or college.

    As part of this national project, the University of Cambridge is acting as the lead for a partnership of Higher Education Institutions and other stakeholders across Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

    The post-holder will process learner data collected by partners and be responsible for its subsequent monitoring and analysis. The role will also be required to work closely and liaise with our Evaluation Coordinator to ensure data is being coded correctly. They will be familiar with disseminating complex information to difference audiences and comfortable with providing training and day to day to support with non-technical colleagues. The post-holder will provide detailed management information for the neaco Steering and Executive Groups, and for inclusion in reporting to the Office for Students. The post holder will also liaise with other Uni Connect Partnerships nationally to ensure best practice in data collection, analysis, reporting, and evaluation of impact.

    The position is subject to external funding and is available on a fixed term contract until 31st July 2026.

    This role is available part time, at 0.8fte. We would consider applicants looking to work 0.6fte also.

    Neaco Project Administrator (Fixed Term)

    Applications are invited for the post of Network for East Anglian Collaborative Outreach (neaco) Project Administrator. The post holder will have responsibility for monitoring progress and measuring the impact of activities delivered by the neaco project.

    Your primary responsibility is the administration of the Central Team's operations, as well as providing or supporting the team's key functions in finance, data and evaluation, communications and partner coordination. You will also directly support the Project Manager, and network partners where required.

    This post reports to the neaco Project Coordinator and works closely with all neaco Central team members, ensuring efficient administrative processes are in place to ensure the smooth-running of the project, and that team members can focus on their key tasks. You will maintain a good operational understanding of the project and productive working relationships across the region, in order to manage tasks and enquiries both internal and external, and ensure partners can work together effectively.

    In this role you join neaco's Central Team at the University of Cambridge, which leads the Office for Students (OfS) funded Uni Connect project in East Anglia. Nationally, Uni Connect aims to contribute to reducing the gap in higher education participation between the most and least represented groups by equipping young and adult learners from underrepresented groups to make an informed choice about their progression to higher education whatever pathway that may be to minimise the barriers they may face when choosing the option that will unlock their potential, including barriers relating to academic attainment.

    As the lead for neaco, we represent our partnership of the five Universities and seven Further Education Colleges in East Anglia. We have worked together since 2017 to deliver an unprecedented outreach programme, through which to effectively engage diverse audiences across East Anglia, and achieve the Uni Connect goals.     You will work alongside six colleagues in the central team, as well as being part of the larger Cambridge Admissions Office. We expect the role-holder to spend some time each week at our offices in the Student Services Centre in central Cambridge, but there is flexibility to work from home as well. There may be opportunities for occasional travel across the East Anglian region to meet and work alongside partner staff.

    The Team

    The Student Funding and Fee Policy Team sits within the Admissions and Access Department, and we are a lively and supportive team covering a wide range of funding activities for the Collegiate University. Our rewarding work enables many students to attend the University who may otherwise have not been able to.

    About the Role

    The role will join the Postgraduate Funding Project sub-team who are tasked with delivering digital 'funding offers' over the next two years. This role is key to ensuring the smooth implementation and running of the new system by supporting staff members to use this new functionality to improve the student experience and secure the best applicants.

    In addition to supporting users with the new offer making functionality the role will also be required to continue engaging stake holders to increase the number of users that the Funding Management Portal has. They will also become familiar with the offer making process in the team through supporting where needed gaining knowledge that will be key to developing the new system.

    This varied and interesting role is vital to a smooth implementation of the work to support the application process from the point of application to Departmental assessment of applicants for funding through to the funding offer making process and securing the best applicants for the University.

    The role also offers the opportunity to contribute to a variety of administrative functions across the Student Funding and Fee Policy team to gain an excellent foundation in how funding at the University works.

    What you will need

    The successful candidate will ideally have experience of working in an administrative role and preferably have some experience of student funding or scholarship administration. They will also have the ability to prioritise and self-manage their workload, to meet targets and deadlines, and be able to deal with pressure.

    They will have high levels of accuracy and attention to detail and an ability to quickly learn new records and reporting systems.

    They should be educated to HND/HNC, Level 4/5 vocational qualifications or have the equivalent level of practical experience.

    They will have excellent organisational and administrative skills, written communication skills, which will be assessed via a written task if shortlisted for an interview.

    Applicants should be educated to at least degree level (or equivalent experience), with experience of coordinating complex projects and experience of managing staff. The successful candidate will have a detailed knowledge of, and commitment to, recruitment and widening participation to Higher Education in the UK, a detailed understanding of the structure and systems of UK secondary schools and colleges, and outstanding communication skills.

    The position is maternity cover, subject to external funding and is available on a fixed term contract until 31st July 2026 or the return of the post holder, whichever is the earlier.

    We are seeking to appoint an experienced administrator with an interest in admissions policies, particularly those relating to international students, to take a temporary role in this busy team. Secondments from internal candidates will be considered.

    The Postgraduate Admissions Office has 24 staff and co-ordinates the processing of around 35,000 postgraduate applications for doctoral research and masters courses each year; providing expert admissions advice and support for over 100 departments and faculties in the University and 31 Cambridge colleges with whom the office liaises closely to ensure a quality service delivery.

    This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a supportive and busy team in a central University office that provides a key service to all departments and colleges, as well as to applicants from all over the world.

    About the Role

    The post holder will act as the main point of contact in the office for admissions policies and procedures relating to fee status assessments, application fee waivers and funding. They will work closely with Departments, Faculties, Colleges and Funders, internal and external, to ensure that the administration for the admission of applicants is efficient, and that processes and policies are robust and well communicated. The role holder will also take on additional specialist areas as required, particularly international qualifications equivalencies.

    As Admissions Administrators, and as part of the wider team, you will also be responsible for carrying out the quality assurance checking and offer making process for all applicants; processing documentation submitted as evidence to meet offer conditions; confirming applicants' admission once all offer conditions have been satisfactorily met; and processing the CAS for students requiring visas.

    The successful candidate will have excellent communication and customer orientated skills, and experience of providing a timely and high-quality administrative service, preferably in higher education. You should have the ability to digest, understand and communicate policy, scrutinise documentation, have an excellent eye for detail, be able to work independently to complete work to tight deadlines, and to use your own initiative and judgment.

    As Deputy Head, you will lead the delivery of a high-quality service. You'll oversee core operations including offer-making, document verification, visa sponsorship, admissions confirmation, and providing staff and applicant guidance. You'll ensure processes are efficient, accurate, and meet Service Level Agreements, while supporting and developing a dedicated team.

    You will use your knowledge and experience to direct staff responsible for the development of specialist admissions areas such as student visas, international qualifications, part-time study, English language assessment, and applications from disabled applicants.     This varied role in the team primarily supports the Student Loans Administrator in administering US Federal Loans, and other loan schemes on behalf of the collegiate University. The US Federal Loans are audited on an annual basis so extreme accuracy and attention to detail is required for this role.
